A new law has been passed which prevents non-credentialled doctors from buying ultrasound machines in California. This was a fall-out of Tom Cruise buying an ultrasound machine to scan his yet-to-be-born child.
In India currently, thanks to the PNDT Act, it is not possible for anyone but a radiologist or gynecologist who has been licensed by the local health authority, to purchase an ultrasound scanner. The companies are also forbidden to sell, unless a PNDT license has been given to the purchaser.
I stumbled across your blog while I was in the process of doing some online research. When Cruise bought the ultrasound machine for his child, I just wonder if he had a trained technician using it on poor Katie, or if he was trying to do it himself.
