This is a 12-years old body who had pain in the right hip joint area. The plain radiograph (AP) view (FIg. 1) shows an ill-defined area of sclerosis along the medial aspect of the right femoral neck. The frog-leg view (Fig. 2) shows a focal osteolytic lesion within the area of sclerosis. The MRI shows a focal hyperintense area with a central hypointensity and surrounding marrow edema on the STIR image (Fig. 3), while the T2W axial image (Fig. 4) also shows a similar appearance. The CT (Fig. 5) is absolutley diagnostic, showing a focal osteolytic lesion with a central calcific nidus and surrounding sclerosis.
Osteoid osteomas are best treated with radiofrequency ablation.
